Rehab Your Brows with Elke Von Freudenberg
I do not like shaping my eyebrows. I find the beauty routine extremely intimidating and scary. Just one overzealous plucking session or miscalculation of the brows’ symmetry and I have to live with the unsightly consequences for months.

Elke Von Freudenberg is a makeup veteran of the Los Angeles movie and TV industries and the New York editorial scene and knows how detrimental a botched brow job can be. A few months ago, I went in to see Elke and booked the signature Model Brow Rehab service ($75 US). For months, I’d neglected my eyebrows and was only performing the absolute minimum to keep them from transforming into Eugene Levy-esque, manly, fur brows – you remember Jim’s dad from the American Pie series, right?
Unlike the quickie sub-$10 wax jobs at nail salons around town, the session with Elke was truly consultative and just-about-me. The session began with Elke spending about 10 minutes talking to me about my brows, evaluating its natural shape, and checking the directionality of hair growth before she started plucking.
For almost 30 minutes, Elke explained every step of the process and gave me lots of tips on how to maintain my eyebrows and other best practices to keep them on the perfectly arched path.
When she’s done with you in the chair, she even prescribes homework! With all Model Brow Rehab sessions, Elke sends clients home with a weekly regiment of Elke Brow Scrub ($16 US), her own natural, vegan, coconut-scented concoction that sloughs away dead skin to encourage eyebrow hair growth.
